Updating GamePinned
There are two ways GamePinned updates: automatically in the background (paid plans), or manually from the Settings tab. Protection stays active throughout either process.
Automatic updates
On paid plans (Pro and Elite), GamePinned updates itself silently in the background. No interaction required.
The background service checks for a new version 30 minutes after the PC starts, then again every 24 hours. If an update is available and Auto-Update is enabled in Settings, it:
- Downloads the new installer in the background
- Runs it silently (no UAC prompt, no windows, no interruption)
- Briefly stops the service, swaps the files, and restarts it
- Relaunches the GamePinned app if it was open
- Shows a tray notification: "Successfully updated to vX.X.X"
You can turn automatic updates off from Settings in the sidebar. If you do, updates will no longer happen automatically. You will need to check manually.
Manual updates
Any plan, including Free, can update manually at any time.
- Open GamePinned and unlock with your admin password
- Go to Settings in the sidebar
- Click Check for Updates
- If a new version is available, a dialog shows the version number and release notes
- Click Download & Install
- A progress bar shows the download. When it finishes, Windows will ask for admin approval (UAC)
- Approve it. The installer runs, GamePinned closes and relaunches automatically
If you're already on the latest version, clicking "Check for Updates" will say so and do nothing.
Free tier
Automatic updates are a paid feature. On the free plan, updates do not happen automatically. The background check runs, but it won't download or install anything.
To update, use the manual method above. It works the same way on all plans.
