Users can't stop it
GamePinned runs as a protected Windows service. Standard user accounts (the kind your customers use) cannot stop, disable, or uninstall it. This is enforced at the Windows level, not just the UI.
The management interface opens in read-only mode for anyone who doesn't know the admin password. Customers can see that the software is running, but cannot change any settings, disable protection, or access the controls.
Admin password
The admin password you set during installation is stored securely on the PC. It is never sent to our servers or stored in plain text. It exists solely to lock and unlock the GamePinned settings interface.
It is completely separate from your Windows account password and can be anything you choose.
The login prompt limits failed attempts. After 5 wrong entries, input locks for 30 seconds. Closing and reopening the dialog does not reset the counter. The lockout stays active for the duration.
If you forget the password, click Forgot password? on the login prompt. A reset dialog verifies your identity through Windows (fingerprint, PIN, or account password) before letting you set a new one.
Hardware ID
The Hardware ID shown on the License tab is masked by default. It shows as dots until you unlock admin access. This prevents someone looking over your shoulder from reading the identifier without your knowledge.
The underlying value is never transmitted in a form that identifies your hardware externally. It is hashed before storage and before any network communication.
License binding
Each license is bound to the specific PC it was activated on. It cannot be shared or used on another machine. See How It Works for a full explanation of how hardware binding works. To move a license to a new PC, contact support@gamepinned.com.
Updates are verified
When an update is downloaded (manually or through the silent auto-update on paid plans), the file is verified before it runs. A corrupted or incomplete download is discarded automatically and the update is aborted.
Your data
GamePinned does not collect personal data about you or your customers. The only information sent to our servers is what's needed to validate and maintain your license:
- A hashed hardware identifier, used to bind the license to your PC. Raw hardware details are never transmitted.
- Software version and platform usage, used to improve the product.
- Count of blocked uninstall attempts (an anonymous number, no usernames or game names).
Payment information is handled entirely by Polar.sh. We never see or store your card details.
Protection works offline
Game protection does not require an internet connection. Once activated, the license is validated locally. Games stay locked even if the PC has no internet access. The only features that require connectivity are license activation and automatic updates.
Backend & API security
All communication between the software and our servers is encrypted in transit.
